In just a few months, this project has grown from making a few digiscoping adapters for friends and family to shipping them around the world. To keep up with that growth and make some much-needed improvements, I’ll be taking a short break during the month of August. Ordering will temporarily be disabled starting Monday, August 4th and will reopen on Monday, September 1st. This time off will let me focus on updating the adapter design, improving the website, and streamlining the assembly process. If you’re currently waiting on an order, don’t worry - closing out any open orders will be the first priority.
Thank you for your support and stay tuned on Facebook and Instagram for more updates!
The specifics:
Adapter design improvements
One of the most requested features for the adapter is the ability to go back and forth between the regular and telephoto lens on phones equipped with both. The current design does not allow for this due to how it centers on the phone block. I’m happy to say that I already have the new design done and tested but I have not had the time to do the less fun things like taking product photos, designing parts specific to various phones, and updating the setup video.
I will also be adding an adapter to be able to use the binocular (small diameter) eyepieces with the spotting scope style phone adapter. This should be slightly lighter than carrying a whole separate binocular adapter if you already have a spotting scope adapter.
Website improvements
This is more of a laundry list of small improvements that include:
- Allowing direct ordering of custom adapter sizes without waiting for me to design them
- Offering the “spotting scope” (large diameter) style eyepieces for binoculars
- Adding more information on the website about how the adapters actually work rather than relying on word of mouth or social media
- Making all the components of the system available for purchase separately as well as in a kit
Assembly/delivery speed improvements
Going from making 1-2 adapters per week to many times that number has revealed some major inefficiencies in the process which I would like to improve. These will be behind the scenes changes to organization and workflow but should result in you getting your order faster. Some examples are better organized parts storage and fixtures for orienting magnets during assembly.
